FFI company history
| 1972 |
FFI President, Robert Renner, starts a business in antiques and architectural hardware in Cincinnati, Ohio.
|
| 1987 |
Mr. Renner founds a new company in Los Angeles, Architectural Art, featuring quality wholesale hardware, and becomes the Western Distributor for Truth Hardware.
|
| 1990 |
The growing company serves high-end custom window and door projects as well as the replacement hardware market, and moves to a larger facility in El Segundo, California.
|
| 1992 |
More hardware lines are added, including European G-U Hardware (G-U discontinued by 1997). International research and sourcing to introduce innovative products to the American market becomes a company hallmark.
|
| 1995 |
Outside sales efforts are expanded across the United States to promote lift slide and other progressive products.
|
| 1997 |
At 10th Anniversary, the company name is changed from Architectural Art to Functional Fenestration Inc., and FFI moves to a larger facility in Hawthorne, California (close to LAX airport).
|
| 1998 |
Italian product lines for lift slide, multipoint locks, and tilt turn hardware are added: AGB, Olivari, Zuani tooling and more. FFI begins advertising in Fenestration Magazine and Window & Door Magazine.
|
| 2000 |

FFI adds more innovative products: Tiger stainless steel sliding door hardware, and motorized actuators for commercial capacity windows and skylights from Ultraflex Control Systems (UCS). Also, extruded brass cladding and brass lift slide track are introduced – brass tracks fills a market need for more corrosion-resistant track for heavy sliding doors installed in concrete.
|
| 2002 |
Continuing our reputation for innovation, FFI adds Alspec and Centor exterior folding door systems from Australia (discontinued in 2005). FFI product development team is instrumental in Eclipse E4 system and oil-rubbed bronze finish being added to the product line.
